<description>Coal is the United States greatest natural resource, Instead of being closed minded about the issue and simply shutting it down with intent to put something else in, I believe we should be trying to fix the problem and not simply shutting it down and leaving hundreds of people without jobs. The railroad that moves the coal would also shut down. I think we should try and develop a clean coal mining factory. So I suggest instead of simply protesting, you people actually try and get something done by attracting media attention or even get involved in the politics of whats actually happening. We all know protesting doesnt do anything for the cause not to mention protesting outside the plant, I mean your audience will be 500 people that dont want to lose their jobs...Also when i say media attention I dont mean your local news channels. Im talking the BBC, NBC, CBS, FOX, CNN, and ABC. Its actually not that difficult to do here in the 21st century.</description>

		<description>Hi,
Love your blog and listings. Any chance I can get you to fix the WED 10:30 entry under on-going activities? It's BOND with your baby, not BONG with your baby. You gave us a good laugh but it's such a great class, in this case, I have to ask for a typo fix.

Thank you!

		<description>Joan,
Is there any way I can contact you about your action and opinion against the Mt. Tom plant? I'm a student at Umass researching the plant and its environmental implications and would love to interview you.

		<description>Good Morning!

What a great blog for both new mothers and new mothers to the area. I am actually a student at Smith College doing a research project on childcare in Northampton. Do you have any comments on the different ways that the child cares centers in Northampton differentiate themselves in terms of quality, approach, and/or price? Is the public school at Jackson Street a good program? or are the private childcare centers superior in quality?

I do hope you have time to help me out. I really appreciate your time.

All the best,
Megan Layton

		<description>I just received this e-mail:
What: Stop Coal, Save Our Future Rally (anti-coal, pro-350 demonstration)
When: Sunday, March 1, at 1:00 p.m.
Where: Mount Tom Power Station, Holyoke, Route 5, approx. 3 miles from downtown Northampton.
Why: We can stabilize CO2 and safeguard our future, or we can burn coal. We can't do both.
Who: Organizers include Massachusetts Coalition for Healthy Communities, HealthLink, Clean Water Action, Clean Air Coalition, and Toxic Action Center.

Endorsers include Massachusetts Global Action, Coalition for Social Justice, and the Springfield Area Sustainable Energy Association.

Speakers include Rev. Margaret Bullitt-Jonas and Tina Clarke.

Why are we protesting?
If we want to leave future generations a healthy climate, we have to stabilize atmospheric carbon dioxide at around 350 parts per million (ppm). But in the past 20 years the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has gone from 280 parts per million to over 370 parts per million. We are racing toward a climate catastrophe, and we have to force the power industry to take its foot off the pedal.

That's why thousands of people are gathering in Washington, D.C., for a demonstration called Capitol Climate Action on Monday, March 2, and why we're rallying at Mount Tom the day before.

Coal is responsible for a significant amount of the carbon we produce in Massachusetts, and the coal-burning Mount Tom station emits more than one million tons of CO2 annually.

Switching quickly from fossil fuels to clean, renewable energy is essential if we are serious about averting climate catastrophe, pursuing peace and real security, creating secure green jobs, and protecting our health. A green economy based on renewable energy and sustainable food is a triple win; for people, peace, and planet.

All it takes is political willpower. And, like the electricity that lights our homes, political willpower is a human-made force. People have to generate it. So help send a message to the energy companies, and to our state and local governments, that we need a rapid phase-out of coal-burning starting now.

What can you do?
Reducing our carbon emissions means forcing the private power companies -- like GDF Suez, the owners of Mount Tom -- to act. And experience suggests that they will not act unless we make them.

So join us at Mount Tom Power Station, Route 5, Holyoke, this coming Sunday, March 1, starting at 1:00 p.m.

The speakers will include the Reverend Margaret Bullitt-Jonas, Priest Associate at Grace Episcopal Church, and Tina Clarke of Clean Water Action.

Bring a sign, bring a friend, and spread the word.
